The Champaign-Urbana Elks Lodge 2497 has named Sydney Orr of Savoy and Sean Kelley of Philo as recipients of the ELKS National Foundation's Most Valuable Student Scholarship awards.
Orr and Kelley will receive $500 a year for four years.
The Most Valuable Student Scholarship is for any high school senior that is a U.S. citizen. These awards are given to students who are near or at the top of their classes, active in school and community activities, are recognized by their peers as leaders and need financial assistance to attend college.
Several local teams competed March 16 in the Illinois Drill Team Association State Finals in Champaign.
Villa Grove's team won second place in the A Hip Hop Division and St. Joseph-Ogden won fifth place in the same category.
Tuscola won third place in the A Pom Division.
Champaign Centennial High School won seventh place in the AA Jazz division. Clinton won sixth place in the A Pom/Dance division, 10th place in the A Jazz division and fourth place in the A Lyrical/Contemporary division. Morgan Love of Clinton won ninth place for Miss IDTA
Several local junior varsity and junior high teams competed March 9 in the Illinois Drill Team Association State Finals in Riverton.
Villa Grove's junior high team won first place in the Hip Hop division. Unity's junior high team won second in the Pom division.
Clinton's junior high team won second place in the Jazz division, third place in Pom/Dance and fourth place in the Lyrical/Contemporary division.
