PAXTON — All three incumbents running for re-election to the Paxton-Buckley-Loda school board were victorious Tuesday night, and they will be joined on the board by a newcomer with plenty of experience in the education field.
Allen Johnson, 66, a retired educator from Loda, received the most votes, 836, among any of the five candidates running for four available four-year terms.
Also victorious were incumbents Dawn Bachtold of rural Paxton, 644; Shawn Young of Paxton, 618; and Cris Thompson, 575, according to unofficial vote totals from Ford, Iroquois, Champaign and Vermilion counties.
Kevin Harms of Paxton, seeking elected office for the first time, was defeated with 545 votes received.
Both Bachtold and Young were elected to their third four-year term on the board. Thompson was elected to his second.
Johnson, meanwhile, who is retired from a 37-year career as a teacher at schools in Paxton and Loda, said he hopes his new elected duties will be a "great opportunity for me to see what I can do to help out."
