URBANA — A Park Forest man who used a forged check to buy merchandise at a Champaign electronics store has been sentenced to two years of probation.
Christopher Peeples, 23, pleaded guilty Monday before Judge Tom Difanis to a single count of forgery, admitting that on Feb. 26, he used a forged check to buy merchandise at the Illini Media Tech Center, 512 E. Green St., C.
The cases of two other men who were charged with the same crime are unresolved.
The trio was accused of using fake checks to buy about $5,860 worth of electronics including computers, headphones and iPads from the store.
Store employees alerted Champaign police that they had checks with different names on them but identical routing and account numbers.
