URBANA — An Urbana man who admitted having a cannabis pipe in his room has been sentenced to a year of probation.
Wei Yuan, 25, who listed his address as the Urbana Landmark Hotel, 210 S. Race St., pleaded guilty Thursday before Judge Harry Clem to misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
He admitted that on Feb. 16, he possessed a glass pipe for smoking cannabis.
Urbana police found the pipe when they responded to the hotel at the request of the owner, Yuan's father, who was arguing with his son that day.
In exchange for Yuan's guilty plea, other charges of misdemeanor assault alleging Yuan threatend to hit his father and possession of cannabis were dismissed. Another case charging him with misdemeanor criminal trespass for returning to the hotel after being ordered not to was also dismissed.
Yuan was also ordered to serve 20 days in jail with credit for 20 already served; pay a $150 fine; and get a substance abuse evaluation.
Assistant State's Attorney Scott Larson said Yuan had no prior convictions.
