CHAMPAIGN — Einstein Bros Bagels plans to open a third location in Champaign-Urbana — this time anchoring a new retail development on Anthony Drive near Prospect Avenue in Champaign.
Franchise owner Marc Bralts said he has agreed to lease about 2,400 square feet in a retail center that Shapland Realty plans to build at 803 W. Anthony Drive, C — once the site of Slot and Wing Hobbies.
The building will be located just south of the Tire Plus/Advance Auto Parts and will face south, with access from Anthony Drive.
Einstein Bros Bagels will occupy the west end of the building and have a drive-through lane, Bralts said.
The restaurant isn't expected to seat as many as the Einstein Bros Bagels shop at Lincoln and University avenues in Urbana, he said.
But it is likely to be open a little later. The store on Anthony Drive is expected to open at 6 a.m. and perhaps close at 6 or 7 p.m., Bralts said.
The new store is expected to employ 18 to 25, he added.
Construction on the building is expected to begin soon, with completion scheduled for late fall, according to Matt Wavering of Coldwell Banker Commercial Devonshire Realty.
A little less than 2,400 square feet remains to be leased, Wavering said.
"We expect interest in the remaining space to be very strong," he said, noting that it can accommodate up to two additional tenants.
Einstein Bros Bagels opened the Lincoln and University store in 2010 and added a second location on the lower level of the Illini Union this year.
