URBANA — Police are investigating a report of “stranger danger” involving a girl being followed by a man in a car.
According to a police report, a 14-year-old Urbana girl was walking home from Urbana Middle School at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday when she was followed by a man driving a red car with tinted windows at South Anderson Street and Burkwood Drive.
The man in the car reportedly watched the girl with binoculars as she walked home from school.
While the report did not say whether the girl was hurt, it did say she was “alarmed and disturbed.”
A description of the man was incomplete.
A note sent to parents Thursday by Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Donald Owen suggested parents take a moment to discuss “stranger danger” with their children and to remind them that is would be best if the children walked to and from school in groups.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Urbana police at 384-2320.
