That's the sound of Champaign Police honoring fallen service members in honor of National Police Week.
The department paid a special tribue to men and women who lost their lives in the line of duty at its annual ceremony Friday at West Side Park in Champaign. In particular, they recognized two Champaign officers who died while serving: Thomas Dodsworth and Robert Tatman.
Director of the University of Illinois Police Training Institute Mike Schlosser was the keynote speaker at the event. He called it an honor to be part of such an important day.
Schlosser added that everyday citizens can honor National Police Week by supporting police in any way they can.
The ceremony at West Side Park was followed by a countywide event at the Champaign County Courthouse honoring all fallen officers in Illinois.
