URBANA — A passenger in a car that was pulled over because police thought it was involved in a hit-and-run accident is being held at the Champaign County Jail on a drug charge.
Raushawn J. Brown, 20, who listed an address in the 800 block of West Hill Street, Urbana, was charged on Friday with felony manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance.
Brown's next court appearance was set for July 23.
According to a police report, officers were looking for a vehicle that had been involved in a hit-and-run accident.
At 11:30 a.m. Thursday, police saw a car that was similar to the description of the car that had been in the accident and pulled it over in the 600 block of North Cunningham Avenue. Brown was a passenger in the car.
While the car turned out not to be the one involved in the hit-and-run accident, police saw suspected drug paraphernalia inside the car, and Brown handed one of the officers a cannabis pipe.
After police arrested Brown and were driving him to the jail, Brown admitted he had drugs on his person. Following a search, police found 11 individual rocks of suspected crack cocaine totalling 2.53 grams (0.089 ounces) in a cavity of his body.
The driver of the car, Gerald L. Miller, 21, who listed an address in the 2000 block of Cynthia Drive, Champaign, was charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license.
His next court appearance was set for July 11.
