Illini center fielder Justin Parr was selected today in the eighth round of the MLB amateur draft by the Philadelphia Phillies.
The senior was the 241st overall pick and the first of several Illinois players expected to be drafted.
Parr was the Big Ten Player of the Year and and a Louisville Slugger first-team All-American after hitting .398 and driving in 53 runs this season.
The former Parkland College standout is the highest draft pick for Illinois since 2009, when infielder Brandon Wikoff was chosen in the fifth round by the Houston Astros.
