URBANA — Bond has been set at $1 million for an Urbana man arrested in connection with a drive-by shooting in Champaign.
Jamonte R. Hill, 19, who listed an address in the 1000 block of Geraldine Avenue, Urbana, was charged on Monday with two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm.
Hill's next court appearance in the case was set for June 18.
According to a police report, officers were called to the 1200 block of Mimosa Drive, Champaign, at 1:15 p.m. Friday following a report of shots fired.
They found an Oldsmobile that was parked in the area with bullet holes in it, but no one was reported injured.
According to the report, police talked to two people who said they were in a car that was being chased by a pickup truck. They identified Hill as a passenger in the truck.
The people told police that someone from the truck was firing shots at them repeatedly.
The report said the Oldsmobile was not involved with the chase, but got hit by the crossfire.
The people to whom the Oldsmobile belonged also confirmed to police that Hill was in the truck that was chasing the other car, according to the report.
Police found Hill in the 1200 block of West Bradley Avenue, Champaign, and arrested him at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
No information was available on Monday about the other occupants of the pickup truck.
The incident was the first of four shootings reported over the weekend in Champaign.
Hill was arrested in April 2012 on charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm, when police alleged he shot two men in north Champaign. Those charges were later dropped when a key witness recanted his version of the story.
Hill has a drug-related conviction from last year and is awaiting trial on another. He was scheduled for a pre-trial hearing in that case on Tuesday.
