Champaign residents have saved more than $1 million in the first year of the electric aggregation program, according to Mayor Don Gerard.
Voters in Champaign and Urbana approved the program in the March 2012 primary. Since that time, several other communities and counties in the area have joined the program, including Savoy and Champaign County.
Gerard said residents in Champaign have saved more than $1.6 million since August of last year.
Meanwhile, Urbana residents have saved more than $1.1 million through the electric aggregation program. That figures only represents the first nine months of savings. April, May and June's figures are not yet available.
