Reid Roper has a younger brother headed this way to play baseball at Illinois.
We tracked down 10 high-profile recruits headed to Illinois in 2013. No. 4 is ...
Ryne Roper, baseball, Harrisburg
What am I going to miss the most about Harrisburg? My friends and the small town where you kind of know everybody, and the success we’ve had there with my class.
What am I going to love the most about Illinois? The opportunity to go to school there and play with my brother (Reid). I’m really looking forward to that.
People say I look like ... my mom.
People say I play like ... Ian Kinsler.
What’s going to make Illinois fans chant, “Ryne, Ryne?” Coming in and making an impact as a freshman. Hopefully we can win a regional and get to the super-regional after they got to a regional this year.
What am I doing in one year? Probably playing summer baseball in some collegiate league. Either the Northwoods League or in one of the Carolina leagues.
In five years? Hopefully finishing up my degree, getting married and getting a job.
In 25 years? Think about how I’m going to pay for my kids’ college and trying to support my family any way I can.
At Illinois, I’d like to wear ... either 15 or 17. That’s what Justin and Jordan Parr wore. I got to know them pretty well. They’re great Christian players, and I really look up to them.
You might not know that I ... am a Cardinals fan even though I live in Illinois and am supposed to like the Cubs.
