URBANA — Saturday is the deadline for artists to apply to be chosen to create 12 "stormwater murals" for Champaign-Urbana.
The University of Illinois Stormwater Management Program is sponsoring the contest, with help from the Public Art League, Champaign County Design & Conservation Foundation and city of Champaign.
Selected artists will create stormwater-themed murals adjacent to storm sewer inlets to raise awareness about storm water management in an urban setting.
The Public Art League and Design & Conservation Foundation will offer selected artists an honorarium of $100 to complete a mural. Paint and other supplies will be provided.
The opportunity is open to all visual artists aged 18 and older with public-art experience. The mural themes will incorporate and illustrate principals of stormwater management. It is anticipated that the murals will last between three to five years before being replaced. All murals are expected to require no maintenance or touch-ups.
Artists selected for the program must be available and able to complete the murals by Oct. 31. For more information, contact the Public Art League at firstname.lastname@example.org , or Eliana Brown at email@example.com .
The applications are due by 5 p.m. Saturday.
