URBANA — One People, a local service and arts organization founded in April, will present "The Lounge" at 7 p.m. Sept. 6 at The Hub, 912 W. Springfield Ave.
"The Lounge" is a community event that provides a platform for local performers to raise awareness and support for nonprofit organizations and causes.
The performers volunteer their time and represent a variety of art forms such as poetry, storytelling and musical performance. People who are interested in performing may visit http://www.onepeoplecu.org to register. The registration deadline is Friday. Registered performers will be notified Sept. 3.
The Sept. 6 "Lounge" theme "Survivor" will raise awareness of violence against women. One People is partnering with women resource and advocacy centers on the event, among them Family Advocacy, RACES (Rape, Advocacy, Counseling, and Education Services) and Beth's Place.
Two previous "Lounge" events raised support for the renovation of a primary school in rural Kenya and the construction of a free health center in Nigeria.
