The new school year is beginning with bargaining teams still at work on new contract agreements in three districts in Champaign County.
One of those school districts is Champaign Unit 4, where two separate bargaining units are still negotiating with the school board. They are the Champaign Federation of Teachers and the Champaign Educational Support Professionals. Illinois Education Association representative Allen Majors said another bargaining session is set for next Wednesday for the support staff in Champaign Schools. A federal mediator is joining negotiations for Champaign teachers. A union representative could not be reached to say if any mediated sessions have been scheduled.
In Rantoul City Schools, teaching assistants and custodians are working without a contract. Superintendent Michelle Ramage said negotiations have not gotten underway yet between the school board and the Educational Support Professionals.
The third district in contract talks is Fisher, where a contract for teachers is still unresolved. Another bargaining session is set for Sept. 9.
