URBANA — A Chicago man who admitted having sex with a teen-age girl in Champaign last year has been sentenced to 13 years in prison.
Desmond Wade, 42, will have to serve at least 11 years of that under truth-in-sentencing, and register as a sex offender.
Wade pleaded guilty Tuesday before Champaign County Judge Heidi Ladd to criminal sexual assault, admitting sexual conduct with a girl that occurred in September 2012 at a home in Champaign.
Wade was friends with the girl's mother and cared for her and her brother while the mother was away.
In exchange for his guilty plea, five other counts of criminal sexual assault alleging acts with the same girl on other days between July and November 2012 were dismissed.
Because of prior convictions, including four that are drug-related, Wade had to be sentenced as a Class X offender to between six and 30 years.
His plea was negotiated by Assistant State's Attorney Scott Bennett and Assistant Public Defender Katie Jessup.
