SAVOY — The planning commission has recommended the village board approve the building design and site layout of the new Flooring Surfaces store, with the caveat that the owners "be sensitive" to the noise of the rooftop HVAC units with the nearby residential area.
The new store will be a factory outlet store for carpet, tile and hardwood floors. Flooring Surfaces President Kevin Applebee said this new location will be "more residentially driven," marketing its products to remodeling homeowners and homebuilders.
The 7,904-square-foot store will be built at 1704 Woodfield Drive and will front both Dunlap Avenue and Woodfield Drive. The store will house a 2,000-square-foot showroom and 5,904 square feet of warehouse space.
This will be the second Flooring Surfaces store in the area. The other store currently operates on Mercury Drive in Champaign.
The planning commission favored the overall plan for the new building, which will be a metal building with a framed entry, windows and a partial brick veneer on the east side of the building facing Dunlap Avenue.
Planning Commissioner Larry Kienzler suggested the owner provide sound blockage to the west for the HVAC units on the roof to prevent any noise disturbance to the residential subdivision to the west.
