Fire officials are looking into the cause of a blaze that destroyed a home near Tolono on Monday.
Tolono Fire Protection District Lt. Brian Lukenbill said crews were called to a home at 728 County Road 1200 East shortly after 11:30 a.m. They had the fire under control within minutes, however Lukenbill said nine other departments were called in to help, especially with the water supply since the area did not have access to fire hydrants.
Lukenbill said the homeowner, an adult female, was present at the time of the fire and suffered moderate burns to 20% of her body. She was taken to the hospital for treatment. Lukenbill also said several cats perished in the blaze, and that no firefighters were injured. The home is considered a total loss, with a damage estimate checking in at $175,000.
The Tolono Fire Protection District and the Illinois State Fire Marshal are both investigating the cause of the fire. Lukenbill said it appears that no foul play was involved.
