URBANA — Two men stopped by Champaign police early Wednesday for alleged traffic violations were arrested and charged with possessing cocaine intended for sale.
A Champaign police report said Christopher J. Palmer, 23, of the 900 block of West Eads Street, Urbana, was driving near the intersection of Fairview Drive and Winding Lane when he was stopped. His only passenger was Donovan D. Hill, 24, of the 1200 block of Mimosa Drive, Champaign.
Palmer allegedly gave police a false name while Hill told police he owned the car but could not provide proof of insurance, the report said.
Officers noticed open liquor in the car and several plastic bags on the rear floorboard.
Hill was asked to get out of the car and was patted down but nothing was found on him. Palmer then gave police his real name and police determined he did not have a valid license. Police searched the vehicle and found a shoe box containing a bag with about 9 grams of cocaine.
Hill had $1,733 on him, the report said.
Hill declined to talk to police, but Palmer admitted getting the cocaine from another person and selling it.
Judge Richard Klaus ordered both men to be back in court Oct. 15 and set bond for each on the Class X felony at $100,000.
