URBANA — The Urbana Park District is looking for resident opinions before starting on a master plan for recreational trails throughout its park system.
It's asking residents 18 and older to take part in focus groups that will meet at two separate locations and times next week. Those who sign up will receive a five-visit punch card for the Urbana Indoor Aquatic Center and a five-visit punch card for the outdoor Crystal Lake Park Family Aquatic Center.
Residents also can take the survey online at a site hosted by the Champaign-Urbana Urbanized Area Transportation Study. The survey is available at http://www.cuuats.org/ubmp/survey/pabs
"In our last community survey, we discovered that trails were among the highest unmet needs residents identified. Recreational trails are next on our list of unmet needs to address, and we encourage Urbana residents to tell us about their current use of recreational trails and future hoped use. That way we can create the best plan possible," said Vicki Mayes, executive director of the park district.
Focus groups of 12 to 15 people will meet from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Brookens Gym, 1776. E. Washington, U, or from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Sept. 14, at Phillips Recreation Center, 505 W. Stoughton, U.
To register for one of the focus groups, call 255-8601 and ask for Dana Mancuso, or send an email to email@example.com with "focus group" in the subject line.
In addition to the park district's recreational trail planning, the city of Urbana and the park district are collecting data for bicycle and pedestrian planning efforts.
