Police are investigating the death of a man found in an alley in Farmer City on Saturday morning as a possible murder.
FARMER CITY — Police have taken someone into custody in the death of a 21-year-old rural Farmer City man.
DeWitt County Sheriff Jered Shofner said in a news release that police were called to the 200 block of Main Street at 7:16 a.m. Saturday, where they found the body of Blayne J. Benefield, 21, of rural Farmer City.
DeWitt County Coroner Randy Rice said Mr. Benefield's body was found in an alley.
Neither Shofner nor Rice indicated what caused the death, but Shofner called it a homicide.
"At 11 a.m. a suspect was taken into custody in Farmer City," said Shofner, who would not release the name of the suspect.
An autopsy will be conducted Monday, Rice said.
