DANVILLE — Police are searching for a man in connection with two sexual-assault reports on the same day this week in the area of Beechwood Drive.
Director of Public Safety Larry Thomason said two women reported the attacks about 15 minutes apart Tuesday morning in the same area.
At 7:15 a.m., police were called to a 22-year-old woman's residence. She told them that she was walking to a bus stop for work at about 5:45 a.m. in the 1600 block of Beechwood Drive when a man jumped from a fenced area and pointed a handgun at her.
She said the man grabbed her and pushed her into a wooded area, where she was assaulted.
The officers who responded were then approached by a 26-year-old woman who told them that a man had attempted to sexually assault her, according to Thomason.
The woman reported that she had been walking in the 1600 block of Beechwood around 5:30 a.m. when a male grabbed her from behind and tried to push her into a wooded area. A vehicle in the area scared away the suspect.
Both women described their attacker as a black man in his early 20s, about 6 feet tall, weighing between 150 and 155 pounds, and wearing shorts and a tank-top-style shirt.
The incidents are under investigation, and no arrests have been made.
