CHAMPAIGN — Seventeen local and visiting visual artists, choreographers and musicians will transform the former Habitat for Humanity space in downtown Champaign into the "Champaign Art Salon" this weekend.
Dance artist Laura Chiaramonte, the salon curator and choreographer, imagined the collaborative event as an exchange of ideas, observation and conversation.
She will present an excerpt of her full length work, "Corporeal," which premiered in April in Chicago and also featured monoprints created by her mother, Janet Chiaramonte, a visual artist.
Besides the Chiaramontes, featured artists at the Champaign Art Salon are Baub Alred, Aleksandra Ewa Sarnicka, Jamie Marlow, Maxx Gogski, Alex Gogski, Robin Lee, Alana Parekh, Jessica Cornish, Baramei Ung, Amanda Pesch, Momar Ndiaye, Stacey Gross, Debra Domal, Pilar Stenger and Alex Wallbaum.
The salon, 40 E. University Ave., C, will open at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Admission is $10; cash only.
The salon will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday free of charge, and visitors will be able to meet and chat with the artists.
