CHAMPAIGN — A "Sing-a-Long 'Grease' " event, to which the audience sings along to the music in the movie, will take place at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Virginia Theatre.
The event is a benefit for the Center for Women in Transition.
"Chicago's Music Box runs a 'Grease' sing-along every summer, and it's been selling out the Hollywood Bowl for years," said Mary Wallace, director of development for the Center for Women in Transition. "But the 'Grease' sing-along is new to Champaign-Urbana."
The event will include the official, licensed version of the "Grease" sing-along, with the song lyrics appearing on the screen.
But there's more fun promised at the event, Wallace said:
— A warm-up with WCIA news anchor Jennifer Roscoe.
— A 1950s costume contest with prizes.
— Raffle prizes including a Gatlinburg, Tenn., weekend, a mattress valued at up to $1,000 from Illini Mattress and a $100 gift certificate to Bacaro.
— A preshow VIP reception, starting at 6 p.m. on the Virginia stage, featuring gourmet bites and beverages from Dish Passionate Cuisine of Champaign, as well as a special musical performance by The Other Guys. VIP tickets are $75 each; VIP reservations are due by Oct. 4. Contact Wallace at 819-4609 or firstname.lastname@example.org .
General admission to the "Grease" sing-along event are $25 for adults and $20 for students and senior citizens. A 10-ticket package costs $200.
