LAKE IROQUOIS — A boil order remains in effect until further notice for the entire community of Lake Iroquois in southwestern Iroquois County.
ERH Enterprises Inc., a Westville-based company that maintains the unincorporated community’s water system, issued the boil order at 10:23 a.m. Thursday.
ERH owner John McBride said the boil order is necessary because ERH has shut off the water tower so it can repair a water main valve that connects the tower to the distribution system.
“We’ve got a valve that we started to close, and it came off,” McBride said, “and it’s in line with the tower, so we had to shut the tower down in order to work on it.”
Until the boil order is lifted, residents should use boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation until further notice. That will kill any bacteria or other organisms that might be present in the water.
To properly boil water, bring it to a boil, let it boil for 1 minute, then let it cool before using.
