University of Illinois Chancellor Phyllis Wise, along with two others with UI ties, were inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences over the weekend.
Swanlund Professor of History Fredrick Hoxie and alumnus Thomas Siebel were the other two fellows to be elected to the academy.
Wise has served as chancellor of the Urbana campus and as a university vice president for two years.
Hoxie holds appointments in the College of Law and in the American Indian Studies Program. He has published more than a dozen books on Native American history.
Siebel is the chairman and CEO of CE Energy, a software company that helps to reduce an organization's carbon footprint. He established the Siebel Center for Computer Science on the Urbana campus.
The induction ceremony was held Saturday at the academy's headquarters in Cambridge, Mass. The UI said the Academy of Arts and Sciences is one of the nation's most prestigious hororary societies and is also a leading center for independent policy reserach.
