URBANA — A Champaign man who admitted he stole money from an ex-girlfriend's bank account was sentenced earlier this month to 4-1/2 years in prison.
Alan M. Felt, 24, whose last known address was in the 4800 block of West Windsor Road, pleaded guilty in August before Champaign County Judge Tom Difanis to identity theft, admitting that between May 13 and 19, he used an Urbana woman's ATM card without her permission.
Police reports said Felt took about $2,900 from her account from ATMs in Champaign and Urbana. The woman told police she had not knowingly given Felt her personal identification number but suspected he may have seen her entering it on other occasions when they were together.
In addition to the prison sentence, Difanis also ordered Felt to make restitution of $5,531 to that woman's bank as well as to four other victims of crimes in cases that the state's attorney's office elected not to charge.
An unrelated misdemeanor battery case lodged against Felt was dismissed after the prison sentence was imposed in the identity theft case.
Court records show Felt has prior convictions for unlawful restraint, retail theft, criminal trespass to residence and aggravated driving under the influence.
