URBANA — Three of the seven people arrested last week for allegedly shooting paintballs at pedestrians will not be immediately charged with a crime after no victim came forward.
University of Illinois police last week were asking potential victims to call in if they believed they had been hit with a paintball or BB. Three Champaign-Urbana men who were arrested on Halloween night will not be charged after police could not identify a victim.
Stephen J. Bobo, 19, of Champaign; Anthony McClinton, 18, of Champaign; and Justin William, 22, of Urbana, had admitted during a traffic stop to using a paintball gun to shoot at people on the sidewalk, UI police Lt. Matt Myrick said last week.
They will go free in the absence of a victim, Myrick said on Monday, though police are still hoping someone comes forward. Charges may still be filed if someone does.
Anyone with information about the alleged crime is asked to call the Champaign County dispatch center at 333-8911 or UI police at 333-1216.
Four other Champaign men who were arrested in a separate paintball incident on Oct. 29 have all received notices to appear in court for reckless conduct, Myrick said.
