This semester, students spend their fourth period in one of two "tiers":
Intervention: These classes gives students who aren't meeting learning targets in their regular math and English classes a chance to relearn the material and get back on track.
Teachers can tailor instruction to different types of learners and spend more one-on-one time with students. They also "pre-teach" material that's coming up in the next unit to give students a head start.
Intervention classrooms run in three-week cycles. If a student tests out of an intervention class, meaning they have shown they have mastered the targets in which they were deficient, they go into seminar.
Seminar: These classes are for students who aren't in intervention (with the exception of volunteer peer tutors, who are students who assist teachers in intervention classrooms).
Students learn knowledge and skills that will aid in their academic success and prepare for the ACT, college, etc.
Next semester, the period will have three tiers:
Intervention: Same purpose.
Guided support classes: These classes will be for students who don't need math or English intervention but could use some extra support in a core class or certain electives such as a foreign language class.
Enrichment classes: These three-week "mini-courses" will be for students who don't need intervention or guided support. They aim to give students a chance to learn a skill or about a topic that can enrich their educational experience or lives and they're not able to get through their regular coursework.
