Ugly. Unattractive. Not good looking. Win.
Ugly. Unattractive. Not good looking. Just a few ways to describe this Illini game vs. IPFW. Fortunately, another way to describe it is simply, "win." Let's get right to my nominees for the Dick Van Dyke Appliance World "WOW!" Play of the Game, with a heavy dose of the Bulldog, Tracy Abrams.
In a game with not much offense, I'll choose Rice's game-clinching steal as tonight's play of the game, but feel free to chime in with your choice in the comments section below.
As for tonight's efficiency stats, well, they're probably better called inefficiency stats tonight:
- 0.86 PPP
- 43.1 eFG%
- 27.8 OReb%
- 21.2 TO%
- 0.86 PPP
- 50.0 eFG%
- 36.1 OReb%
- 28.0 TO%
None of those numbers are good, except the one that goes in the win column. The Illini did cut down their turnovers in the second half, giving the ball up just three times, after eleven first half miscues. Despite shooting poorly from the free throw line themselves (13-23), the Illini were plus eleven at the charity stripe, thanks to the Mastadons shooting just 2-13 from the line. Ouch. Regardless, Illinois is now 7-0, and has yet to lose in November under John Groce. The Yellowjackets of Georgia Tech are up next in Atlanta on Tuesday night. Illinois will need a much better performance to get a win there.
