URBANA — A Rantoul man is being held at the Champaign County Jail on $50,000 bond following his arrest over the weekend by University of Illinois police.
Patrick William Miller, 30, who listed an address in the 500 block of North Penfield Street, was charged Monday with delivery of or possession of with the intent to deliver a controlled substance.
University police Sgt. Joe McCullough said police were watching an alley in the 100 block of East John Street, Champaign, on Saturday night as part of an ongoing drug investigation.
At about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, police saw Miller leave his car. Miller was walking away from the vehicle when an officer began talking to the Rantoul man, according to the police report.
While the officer was talking to Miller, a police dog alerted to a bag on the ground near the car where Miller had originally been seen.
McCullough said police recovered about 54 grams (1.9 ounces) of suspected powered cocaine and nearly $1,200 cash and arrested Miller.
The suspected cocaine has an estimated street value of $2,300, according to the report.
Miller is due back in court on Jan. 21.
