PAXTON — The school board made plans last week to hire a new high school principal by early March, while extending the deadline for candidates to apply until the end of January.
Superintendent Cliff McClure said the school district received 27 applications for the job being vacated Dec. 31 because PBL High School Principal Trent Eshleman is resigning.
However, although pleased with the quality and number of applicants, the board agreed during a closed session last Wednesday to allow more time to choose a replacement.
"At this time and point, the board just felt like it would be very difficult of a transition for someone to be hired and come in at this time of the year," McClure said.
McClure said he has contacted all applicants and notified them that the deadline to submit applications has been extended until Jan. 31.
Interviews will then be completed in February, and the board will name a replacement in late February or early March, McClure said. The person hired would start July 1.
Through the end of this school year, Eshleman's duties will be "split up" between current administrators in the district, McClure said.
