Ameren Illinois is reporting at least 8,700 customers in eastern Champaign and Vermilion counties are without power as of 7:10 p.m. Friday.
Ameren Illinois restored power to at least 8,700 customers in eastern Champaign and Vermilion counties Friday evening.
Ameren spokesman Brian Bretsch said a vehicle hit a transmission tower on Illinois 49 and knocked out power. The condition of the driver is unknown, but Bretsch said he heard informally that the driver will be OK.
Residents reported to The News-Gazette on Friday evening that Ogden, St. Joseph, Oakland, Fithian and Sidney were among the towns affected.
