CENTRALIA — Wesley Dee took four shots Friday night at the Centralia Holiday tournament. All were three-pointers. Three went in. None was more clutch than the last.
With Champaign Central trailing by two points and time running out, the senior forward knocked down a buzzer-beating trey to lift the Maroons to a heart-racing 49-48 victory against Madison (Mo.) Prep.
The victory boosted Central into Saturday’s semifinals.
Dee finished with nine points in a balanced Maroons attack. Dominique Brize and Sean Suggs shared the team lead with 10 points apiece.
Central shot 54.5 percent from the field, including 46.2 (6 of 13) from three-point range. The long-distance accuracy was vital for the Maroons, helping them overcome Madison’s 14-7 scoring advantage at the foul line.
