RURAL CHAMPAIGN — County officials are not saying a Monday morning death was related to the weather after a man collapsed trying to free his car from the snow.
Champaign County Chief Deputy Sheriff Allen Jones said that, sometime after 5 a.m. Monday, a man driving home from work on County Road 1100E near 2400N got stuck in the snow.
He said the 55-year-old man was able to take shelter in a nearby residence.
"At some point in time later ... he attempted to free his vehicle with the farmer," Jones said. "At that point in time, something caused him to collapse. 911 was called, instructions were given for CPR."
The man, whose name was not released, could not be saved.
Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said the man had a history of cardiac illness, and therefore, county officials are not saying the death was or was not related in any way to the weather.
