URBANA — A Champaign man who threatened a security guard with a paring knife has been sentenced to 30 months of probation.
Johnnie D. Gillon, 38, whose last known address was in the 500 block of East John Street, pleaded guilty to felony aggravated assault Friday.
He admitted to Judge Heidi Ladd that he threatened the security guard on Dec. 27.
Assistant State's Attorney Scott Bennett said Gillon had been banned from the Illinois Terminal on Dec. 26 for fighting. The security guard who did that was off duty outside a downtown Champaign bar a few hours later when Gillon approached him, said, 'Remember me?' and pulled a paring knife. The guard walked away and called 911. Police located Gillon not far away downtown. He still had the knife, Bennett said.
Other charges of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and misdemeanor aggravated assault were dismissed. The state also terminated the conditional discharge that Gillon was on in a misdemeanor trespass case.
Bennett said Gillon has previous convictions for battery, aggravated battery, domestic battery, burglary, theft, possession of cannabis and criminal trespass to residence and land.
