CHAMPAIGN — Nobody was reported hurt in a fire on the University of Illinois campus on Sunday night.
According to a Champaign Fire Department report, firefighters were called to a fire at Sherman Hall, 909 S. Fifth St., Champaign, at 7:36 p.m. Sunday
When firefighters arrived, they observed no fire or smoke on the outside of the building.
The fire was reportedly limited to a single room on the sixth floor of the 13-story-tall section of the complex.
A woman who lived in that room approached firefighters to tell them that it was her room that was on fire.
All the residents of the 13-story section were evacuated from that portion of Sherman Hall. They were sent to a lobby in the low-rise section and a lobby between the two sections.
According to firefighters, the fire was already put out by a sprinkler system by the time firefighters had arrived.
Firefighters remained on the scene Sunday night to investigate the cause of the fire.
The fire department had not determined a dollar amount for the damage on Sunday night.
