Work continues at Parkland College to take ownership of the University of Illinois Institute of Avaition, with marketing of the program and an assembly of a class schedule set to ramp up soon.
That news comes as student applications to join the program in the fall were made available Tuesday. Parkland is offering a two year associates degree program, pilot certification and the possibility to transfer to a four year college to continue studies. Training will continue to take place at Willard Airport in Savoy.
Parkland's Dean of Academic Services Pam Lau said officials are making sure the quality of education in the program remains the same.
Lau added that officials don't have a handle yet on how many students will enroll in the aviation program this fall. But she said she's heard that several UI engineering students are interested.
