Illinois and Connecticut have never played before in football, but that will change starting in 2019
The first nonconference opponent for Illinois football in the 2019 and 2020 seasons was revealed on Tuesday.
Illinois will play at Connecticut on Sept. 7, 2019 before the Huskies return the trip with a game at Memorial Stadium in Champaign on Sept. 12, 2020.
Illinois already has its nine-game Big Ten slate complete for the 2019 season, so the Illini are still in search for two nonconference games that season with the addition of the Huskies.
The Big Ten schedule for the 2020 season has not been released yet. The game against the Huskies is the first one set for Illinois in the 2020 season.
The two schools have never played before in football. UConn, a member of the American Athletic Conference, started playing FBS football in 2000 and has played in five bowl games since 2004.
