Today (Tuesday, Feb. 18): the last day to register to vote in the March 18 primary election. The Champaign County Clerk's office, 1776 E. Washington St., Urbana, will be open until 5 p.m. today to accommodate those who wish to register, said County Clerk Gordy Hulten. This election is the first in which some 17-year-olds will be eligible to vote. They will qualify if they turn 18 by the Nov. 4 general election, under a new state law approved last year.
Wednesday, Feb. 19: First of three primary election forums sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Champaign County, the NAACP Champaign County and The News-Gazette. Forums will feature Democratic candidates in Districts 6, 7, 9 and 11. Forums from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Champaign City Building, 102 N. Neil St., C.
Thursday, Feb. 20: Second night of forums features five of the six candidates for Congress in the 13th Congressional District. Republicans candidates Michael Firsching and Erika Harold at 7 p.m., followed by Democratic candidates Ann Callis, George Gollin and David Green at 8 p.m. U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis, R-Taylorville, will not attend.
Friday, Feb. 21: Last of three nights of candidate forums, this time featuring Carol Ammons and Sam Rosenberg, the Democratic candidates for the Illinois House in the 103rd District, which includes almost all of Champaign-Urbana. Forum runs from 7 to 8 p.m.
