The Big Ten released the 2014-15 women’s basketball matchups Friday. Here’s how it breaks down for the Illini:
Home only: Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio State, Wisconsin
Road only: Indiana, Maryland, Penn State, Rutgers
Home/road: Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Purdue
Jeff Huth’s random thought: Illini fans hoping to see the new kids on the Big Ten block in person will need to be patient. Neither Maryland nor Rutgers visits State Farm Center in its debut season in the conference. Meanwhile, Illini athletic director Mike Thomas might want to revisit the 2014-15 travel budget for Matt Bollant’s program. Illinois makes yet another distant Big Ten trip east when it heads to Penn State — this one also unreturned. Nebraska isn’t exactly in the neighborhood, either, but at least the Big Ten is insisting that the Cornhuskers drop by SFC at some point next season. This Big Ten expansion stuff looks to be a boon for the airline industry. Good thing BTN — so we’re told — is the kind of cash cow that helped lure Maryland and Rutgers into the league in the first place.
