URBANA — An Urbana man arrested late Tuesday night for tussling with police has been ordered to begin serving a prison sentence imposed on him a year ago by a Champaign County judge.
A Champaign police report said officers were sent to the 0-100 block of Hedge Court about 11:35 p.m. on a report of a domestic dispute.
When officers got there, Steven O. Thompson, 45, of the 1400 block of Romine Street gave them a false name and date of birth.
When officers figured out Thompson's true identity, they learned that he had failed to turn himself in on March 12, 2013, to begin serving a two-year prison term he received in February 2013 for driving under revocation.
Thompson allegedly resisted the efforts of Officer Brian Rogers to take him into custody and allegedly punched Rogers in the chest.
The state's attorney's office filed new charges against Thompson of aggravated battery to a police officer, resisting a peace officer, and obstructing justice stemming from those acts. He was told to be back in court on those April 8.
Meantime, Judge John Kennedy ordered that Thompson be sent to the Department of Corrections to begin serving his two-year sentence.
