DANVILLE — An autopsy has been scheduled for today for a man who died following a shooting early Sunday morning in Danville.
Vermilion County Coroner Peggy Johnson said that Demaree D. Tetter, 25, of Danville, was pronounced dead at 2:06 a.m. Sunday.
Director of Public Safety Larry Thomason said police were called to a fight inside a bar at Club Deuce, 623 N Vermilion St., at approximately 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
“Officers arriving were attempting to quell the disturbance inside when they were told that shots had been fired outside,” Thomason said. “Police initially stopped a vehicle when notified of the shooting and detained the occupants. They were later released after being interviewed. No motive for the shooting has been established at this time.
“Officers found two Danville men at the rear of a business in the 700 block of North Vermilion. Both were victims of gunshot wounds.”
The men were transported to Presence United Samaritans Hospital in Danville, where Mr. Tetter was pronounced dead.
The other man, 35 years old, was treated and sent to an Urbana Hospital for further treatment. Police did not identify him Sunday, but said his wound is not considered life-threatening.
Thomason there was a very large crowd of people in or near the incident location.
The shooting is under investigation by the Danville Police Department and the Vermilion County Coroner’s Office.
