URBANA — A convicted felon who pleaded guilty to having a gun last fall was sentenced to eight years in prison.
Cleo Ross, 46, whose last known address was in the 700 block of Tawney Court, Champaign, pleaded guilty Monday before Judge Heidi Ladd to unlawful possession of weapons.
The charge stemmed from his arrest on Nov. 12 by Urbana police, who stopped him near Lierman Avenue and Washington Street for driving with a suspended license.
After arresting him for that, they did a search of the vehicle and found a pistol in a backpack on the back seat.
Because of prior convictions — armed robbery and home invasion in 1992 — Ross is not allowed to have a gun.
