CHAMPAIGN — University of Illinois police took a man into custody after it was reported he had a gun on campus earlier this week.
But once authorities learned the man was just an actor who was taking part in the shooting of a film, he was released.
According to a police report, officers were called to Temple Hoyne Buell Hall, 611 E. Lorado Taft Drive, Champaign, at 1:15 a.m. Monday after a witness reported seeing a man with a handgun in the area.
After officers found the unidentified man with what they believed to be a handgun, he was taken into custody.
Police soon learned that the object was a replica weapon. The man told police that he and another man were actors in a film project.
Police then identified other people involved with the project and released the man.
According to the UI police report, no charges were filed against the man, but the matter has been forwarded to university student discipline officials.
