WESTVILLE — A fire destroyed a rural residence several miles east of Westville on Monday morning.
The Westville fire department was called out at 10:25 a.m. Monday to a residence on 1290 East Road and found the house "pretty well involved" when it arrived, according to Westville Fire Chief Gary Wright.
Homeowner Kevin Smith, who lives there alone, was not at home when the fire started in the single-story wood frame house, according to Wright. He said the Catlin, Lynch and Georgetown fire departments assisted Westville, and they were on the scene until about 1:30 p.m. Monday.
Wright said the house is a total loss. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Smith told Wright that a fire was going outside and suspects that it spread.
