A rousing Boneyard Arts Festival start for me Thursday night: Laura Wennstrom 's colorful, pulsating mandala-like pieces at University Y; African drums and dance at Krannert Center; and Haitian drums and dance plus beautiful Haitian voudou flags exhibit at Spurlock Museum!
Most TV programs seldom hold my interest. But the WILL broadcasts Monday night of the White House "Women of Soul" concert and fascinating "Brothers Hypnotic" documentary about Chicago's Hypnotic Brass Ensemble certainly did. I hope local programmers bring Hypnotic here!
Some of the 21 floral arrangements created in response to artworks for Krannert Art Museum's "Petals & Paintings" last week were amazing. People loved Naperville florist Peter Samek's; it incorporated 1,000 sharpened black pencils. I also admired the Zen simplicity of Rick Orr's.
