GIBSON CITY — The city council voted to institute a 3 percent pay raise for all city employees and non-union police officers.
The raises are effective Thursday, the beginning of the city's fiscal year.
Personnel Committee Chairman Dennis Pardick said the annual raise is a normal action taken by the council from year to year. Pardick added that the Fraternal Order of Police also issued a 3 percent raise for the city's police officers, so following suit for all other employees seemed like the best course of action.
The council also accepted a bid from General Material Corp. of Gilman to oil-and-chip city streets this summer. The bid called for a cost of $3.60 per gallon of material applied.
General Material Corp. won the bid over Beniach Construction Co. of Tuscola, which came in with a bid of $4.06 per gallon of material applied.
City Superintendent Randy Stauffer said receiving two bids is fairly normal, and he and the city received calls from companies throughout the state, but most declined to enter a bid because the travel distance was too great for the job size.
