PAXTON — A threatening comment made by a Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School student prompted a “soft lockdown” Tuesday afternoon at the school district’s four schools.
The Paxton Police Department notified district administration of the incident about 1:15 p.m.
The soft lockdown, in which classes are held but students are not allowed to leave, lasted the rest of the school day.
“This student was not in attendance at school when the district was notified by the Paxton Police Department, and the comment was not made in the presence of students or school personnel,” Superintendent Cliff McClure said in a message sent to parents using the district’s automated phone messaging system.
“District administration continues to work with the Paxton Police Department as the situation evolves. There will be a police and PBL staff presence (Tuesday) at dismissal for precautionary reasons.
“At no time were any staff or students in imminent danger, and the soft lockdown was initiated following emergency response procedures. PBL continues to make the safey of its staff and students a number one priority.”
