In 1914: Harris Dante, editor of the Monticello Republican, will become owner and proprietor of the Homer Enterprise, succeeding Bergen Morgan, who came to Homer from Sidney and took over the paper. It is understood consideration is $1,500. The paper has been independent toward the Progressives, but it now will become solidly Republican.
In 1964: All three incumbent state representatives from Champaign, Piatt and Moultrie counties said they were assured of being nominated at their party conventions this week. Each party is being asked to choose 118 candidates who will run at large in November. The three local lawmakers are Republicans Charles Clabaugh and Ed Dale of Champaign and Democrat Leo Pfeffer of Seymour.
In 1999: David King, 47, has been chosen the new head of the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District. King, of Springfield, is a deputy director in the Illinois Department of Public Health. He replaces Gale Fella, who retired this spring. King will make $99,800 a year.
